About the technetium 99 nuclear contrast and breastfeeding- this is a situation where I try to encourage doctors to not do such scans until the mother is weaned, unless absolutely necessary. The question is what will they gain from that scan?

If she is not very symptomatic with her gallbladder, maybe she could avoid large fatty meals and wait until she is weaned.

Do they have enough suspicion about her gallbladder that they could take it out without the scan?

I would encourage the mom to talk to the physician or surgeon. If the primary care provider is ordering the scan, perhaps the primary care provider could do a surgical referral first, to see if the scan is really necessary before having surgery.
