Lynn, you just pushed one of my red buttons!
So, my thoughts
I think that nature or Creator or to whom each of us wants to credit it to,
did not make survival difficult and non-likeable. Breastfeeding is the way
baby's are supposed to survive in the human blueprint. Like making baby's and
caring for them, it should be a pleasant act. Actually, I think birthing should
be as well.
Having that said, the fact remains that indeed many babies seem to prefer
bottles onces they had one or more. Again, back to the blueprint: in the original
design there was no place calculated for breast replacements. If mom's was
closed, baby would probably eat out at another mom's or granny's. Eating out as
if it were at home, so to speak.
Personally, I do not think that "hardness" or "easiness" is the point in
breast or bottle preference. It could be one or more of different factors, like
the feeling of a firm vs a soft stimulus at the reflex point in the palate, the
predictability of the flow with or without input from the nursling, confusion
about technique and randomly choosing one, overlooked oral variations that
make breastfeeding the more complicated choice (I remember a lactnetter once put
out the question if pacifier use was causing nursing problems or that the
already existing -but perhaps not noticed- problems lead a child to wanting to
find his sucking needs met with the pacifier).
