Just for clarification's sake: When I answered the post on cradle hold,
I was explaining the newer modifications that were making the cradle
hold work, not saying that I always use any one technique.

As consultants, our job is to have a huge toolbox to draw on when moms
and babies are having difficulties. We each develop our our favorites,
which we find often work, and we might try these favorites first. But we
also know other things that we can use when our favorites don't work.

I think the paradigm of infants as competent is changing our practice in
a positive direction. Many babies can do it all by themselves. Studying
what the triggers are for infant feeding behaviors can allow us to use
those in assisting babies that are having difficulty. Diane Wiessinger
and Rebecca Glover call these "baby led" and "mother sped" techniques,
respectively. I like that terminology, because it keeps in mind that
this is a relationship and a dance.

And it was a great pleasure to have Kika here to "play" with me.
