I have have a working mother who hase been pumping in her office for
the past 4 months, and now is being told she can't, she must go to
another building to pump, which is a good tem minute walk from her
office. She is upset because of the extra time involved, and
issue with going outside if the weather is bad. She is being given
the extra time to go to and from, but does like that it takes away
from time she needs to keep up with her workload. This is on a DOD
Military base, but the mom is a civilian worker. We have looked up
any Federal guidelines that might protect her rights to pump, but
things are a bit grey. She could actually breastfeed anywhere she is
allowed to be, but nothing really addresses pumping. (Besides, she
might feel comfortable BF her child on a bench in the hallway...and
not want to pump in the hallway!!!!) She has thought about sitting
outside the "Single Sailor" club she manages, and pumping on the
front sidewalk....but we thought it might not go over too well..\"/ ,
althought it might get our point across....
Are there any states out there that address this issue? Just what
is a "proper" place to pump? How close does it have to be to the
persons actual work place??? Can she be prevented from pumping in
 her own office?
I am "no mail" simply because I work in a very busy pediatric
clinic and carry many, many hats and couldn't keep up with the
mail...
Please send any comments to my personal e-mail address...
Thank-you so very much.....LT Sue Adamson
