Dear Lactnetters

I agree with Jan. I had thought that breast may be the operative word and
modesty (read a plot to hide breastfeeding) the driving force. However,
then I remembered that North Americans use the word nipple instead of
rubber teat for the rubber gizmo. Is using the nomenclature "nipple" for
rubber gismos another plot to make the rubber teat more palatable? (excuse
the pun).

By the way a beautiful photo of a breastfeeding woman appeared well
positioned (that is in newspaper reading terms) in the popular Melbourne
Saturday Age 18/10/97 on page 3 righthand side of paper. The photo
accompanied the results of combined West Australian and Latrobe University
study demonstrating that when fathers were "for" breastfeeding, longer
lengths of breastfeeding occurred.

Go fathers.

The article further suggested that promoters of breastfeeding should
include fathers in any teaching about breastfeeding.
