Not much time to read much less respond to posts lately, but thought I'd put
my 2 cents in re. implants. As a result of my study (published in OB/GYN,
jan 1997) I did find mothers w/periareolar incisions to experience
significantly more lactation insufficiency. Denise, you are wise to follow
this mom closely. If the incision, operative procedure, damage to nerves,
ducts, is in fact the problem I doubt that fenugreek, Reglan or oxytocin
will help - but could'nt hurt.

BTW, a prominent plastic surgeon replied by letter (which was published in a
subsequent issue of OB/GYN journal) to my study - ripping it apart stating
that the study was not conclusive. Several months later I received a call
from this doctor, we talked at length and have recently submitted an IRB to
study the operative records of my study moms, as well as new subjects, to
determine the underlying reason these mothers may have difficulty. We will
also analyze silicone levels when appropriate and compare to controls. In
other words, he believes now that the surgical texts have been overly
optimistic about the effects of breast surgery on lactation.

See we can make a difference!!!!!!!!
