Elise,

You don't say where you live, but here in Florida the yeastie beasties thrive
in all warm, moist places. The undersides of a pregnant woman's breasts
would certainly qualify!

What does the rash look like? Red, raised dots? Does it have a musty smell?
 Does it itch?

If so, have her ask her doctor to prescribe Mycolog (mycostatin) powder.
It's wonderful stuff, and works better on sweaty body folds and crevices than
the creams and ointments do.

Hope this helps,

A colleague has seen this mother and has asked me to post his question to
the list (with my mother's permission).

Mother is 8 months pregnant with first child. Early in pregnancy, she
developed a rash on the underside of both breasts (essentially where an
under wire of a bra would be. Her doctor recommended all-cotton bras,
which she did. The irritation improved somewhat.

Now, she has another problem. She has developed a rash on only the lower
half of her areolar regions on both breasts. The skin is red and wrinkled
(like an old person's skin). It is extremely sensitive to touch, so much so
that the mother says it is excruciatingly painful to touch. Obviously, she
cannot imagine breastfeeding if it is going to be this bad.

Has anyone had any experience with this sort of problem in pregnancy? I did
check the archives, but found mostly info about problems during pregnancy.
I would appreciate anyone's generous help.
