I have always heard that on a traditional US four-hour schedule of feeding
the baby at 6 am / 10 am / 2 pm / 6 pm / 10 pm and 2 am, that the baby is
considered to be "sleeping through the night" when it "gives up the 2 am
feeding".  This would have the baby being fed at 10 pm and then not again
until 6 am, which is an 8 hour stretch.
