Reading all your posts about the lactose-free formulas has made me realize
I say things in practice that sound contradictory. I tell moms that it's
extremely rare for babies to be intolerant to lactose, so the lactose-free
formulas aren't necessary--then I usually rant about formula marketing for
awhile -but that's beside the point. However, when I see a baby with lots
of gas, green explosive stools, good hydration, poor weight gain, I think
foremilk/hindmilk imbalance, and the gas and green stools are related to
high lactose content.
One of the posts in the archives refers to "above normal lactase demands"
when babies get too much foremilk--this makes good sense to me. Thanks for
your posts!!
