Janet: For your mom with the breast reduction surgery who may have to
restart Desyrel (trazodone) and Depakote (valproic acid), Briggs states
that trazodone gets into milk in very small amounts, but its active
metabolite was not studied, and it's on the AAP list of drugs to "use
with caution, because long-term effects are unknown (this is true of all
antidepressants); valproic acid gets into milk in less than 15% maternal
serum concentration, no adverse effects in exposed babies, and it's on
the AAP list of compatible meds. Hope this helps. Alicia. [log in to unmask]
