I have to agree with Pamela.  What evidence is there that breastfeeding has anything to do with this?  The mother's own experience has told her that cutting down on breastfeeding has no lasting effect on the condition.  Lactation is a physiologic state for female human beings between the ages of menarche and menopause.  It is extremely unlikely that breastfeeding is causing this poor woman's hives ... and unlikely that weaning will resolve it.  But of course, it will be self-limiting - and Sod's Law tells us that the cessation of breastfeeding and the resolution of the itch with con-incide.
