Hello everybody, I'm back for a while. Should re-introduce myself since
it's been so long. Educator, advocate, author, mother of 3 grown-up
children, grandmother of Brigit Ellen Veronica Maher, just moved after 12
years in the one place to a wonderful 1885 house big enough for the whole
extended family. Completing a series of teaching courses that has ranged
from 70+ midwives and doctors over 14 weeks (28 hours) to 8 hours at the
Pharmacy College for 50 registered pharmacists, and lots of other sessions
in country and city alike. The house moving is not complete but we are all
in and it's working (son-in-law is lovely too); Breastfeeding Matters is
almost at the printer; so I will sign on for a couple of weeks to get back
in touch before heading off to Arizona and BSC conference. It has been very
difficult to restrain myself and scan only archives! Lactnet is definitely
addictive and I've missed it. It's my hope that the second half of 1998
will be less chaotic. (Don't laugh, anyone!) Intend to be brief in
responses, and can't promise to answer private e-mails: not yet that free
with time. So apologies in advance, (and for not dealing with a number of
things sent to me in the last 6 months) but I'll do what I can....

>They can also have green BMs which indicates an
overproduction of bile (I think--my grasp of this isn't wonderful)<.

Green stools just means intestinal hurry and bile undigested (not
necessarily over-produced) because of the rapid transit. Common causes
include oversupply, food intolerance, low fat content of diet. Acid stools
result from fermentation of sugars such as lactose not adequately digested
by enzymes; frequent sign of lactose overload. Common causes oversupply,
food intolerance and anything that damages intestinal mucosa: giardia,
viruses, antigens, bacteria, thrush....and so causes loss of lactase, teh
enzyme needed to split lactose.
