<<Isn't there some way babies can be monitored for Vit. D status if
there is

in the years that my nutritionist has been studying vitamin D, she's
found insufficiency to not just be an issue with those that have darkly
pigmented skin or those who cover themselves for religious or other
reasons.

remember, that I have a moderate skin tone - not light or dark....tan
easily, rarely burn, I regularly wear short sleeves and take my kids to
the park. while i don't sun or do outdoor sports, i am frequently out
and about between errands - enough to meet the recommended minimum
amounts for adequate D exposure.

and my D was low. Very low. Not low according to lab norms, but
probably low enough to affect my health over the long term - if one is
reading all of the research on D, which I now am.

my D status, at the level that it was, would negatively impact a baby i
was gestating, or one I was nursing (unless they were getting more sun
than I was).

vitamin D insufficiency can affect anyone regardless of skin tone,
though those with very darkly pigmented skin or those who are in the sun
very little (lifestyle, religious coverings, whatever) are more at
risk....and if they're at risk, there's always the possibilities of
their nurslings being at risk.

read the research.

consider the possibility.
