I am a hospital based LC doing lots of education for nurses. I've been at this
for 4 years. All of our nurses get a minimum of eight hours of basic lactation
ed. It has been working well.

During years 1&2 in this position.... I taught the section on "benefits of
breastfeeding" and really encountered no problems.

Now I have a curriculum that talks about risks of formula and so far, in every
one of these sessions...there have been at least one or two nurses really
outraged.

We are not teaching anything different. I swear! And the same LCs are doing the
education.

Has anyone else gotten this kind of change out of the "risks of formula"
approach? I am wondering if it's just too much for those who fed formula....for
whatever reason, to hear?

I am thinking about going back to benefits of breastfeeding when I next write
for CE's. Any thoughts on this? I realize people need to "grow up" and hear the
truth but, at the same time....I realize people have personal issues and we need
to be sensitive. Would love to hear from anyone else who has experience with
lots of nurse ed.
