Hi,

I can't find any specific articles on the AAP website or in the archives
saying not to supplement feeds with glucose water (dextrose 5% or 10%). We
have several NICU nurses who swear that it's the ONLY way to raise a blood
sugar without an IV!

Yeah, yeah, I know..."Why are you WORRIED about blood sugar in normal
babies?" I'm not...it's the NICU nurses, and the NICU-oriented pediatricians
that are. We (the "boob ladies") are trying to change policies, in
non-threatening baby steps.

At least we all genuinely want what's best for the baby. (Sigh.)

Can anyone out there help? I need studies, not anecdotal evidence. Thanks.

Tammy in Colorado (already planning to sit for the IBCLC exam next year...no,
I don't have results yet)
