I mixed breastmilk with solids because I had breastmilk in the freezer
and didn't want it to go to waste.  My 2nd baby didn't want anything to
do with breastmilk from a bottle, cup, spoon, etc. she only wanted it
from me(smart baby).  But I worked full time from the time she was 12
weeks old, so we had to be very creative--mostly I came home a lot or my
dh brought her to me.  However I pumped to keep up my supply.  She also
wanted solids at 6 months, even though I had wanted to wait until 8-9
months.  It was easy to mix breastmilk with carrots or potatos or
whatever it was I was making, to get it to the right consistency.  I
certainly wasn't going to use cow's milk and butter--what better thing
to do than use mommy milk.  It really didn't have anything to do with
anything but I had lots of milk in the freezer and this was a good way
to use it when the baby refused to drink it.  There was nothing wrong
witht he milk, btw, my older child would drink it from a cup and enjoyed
it that way (also from the source).
