Dear Rachel,

I've sent a few moms to Dr. Coryllos with labial frenulums that are shortened
and descend to front of gum as you describe (all of these also had lingual
tongue tie), and she clipped these. There tends to be slightly more bleeding
with this procedure than the lingual and the babies had more soreness initally
but that resolved in a day or two. Moms all reported distinctly more comfort
at breast and baby able to flange upper lip as normal. Sucking blisters also
went away on babies with ability to flange.
Besides sore nipples being resolved (enough of a reason right there),
unclipped labial frenulums can cause the front teeth to be widely spaced.
