The article is about risk factors associated with Lupus (SLE)

"Hormones. Because the majority of SLE patients are female, hormones
are of interest. Experiments in mice have shown that lupus is made
worse by the female hormone estrogen and improved by male androgens.
Both men and women with lupus have low androgen levels. Some studies
suggest that postmenopausal estrogen replacement may increase SLE risk.

Questions remain about the role of birth control pills and fertility
drugs in triggering the disease. The female hormone prolactin may be
another culprit. Levels of prolactin increase during breastfeeding."
