Exactly a year ago, I was scrambling to find information on a totally failed
milk supply with a second baby. She had pneumonia at delivery, and never
progressed beyond drops. (Her first words after her baby's birth: "I...
can't... breathe.")

The verdict, finally, confirmed by MRI, is Sheehan's Syndrome, brought on
not by blood loss but by hypoxia, which of course amounts to the same thing
as far as the pituitary is concerned.

Her situation is complicated by long-standing diabetes, and she's steeling
herself for all the added pills and injections that permanent pituitary
damage involves.

She would love to talk with other women who have Sheehan's Syndrome. Do any
of you have clients who'd like to share with her? I've assured her that
Lactnet will turn up something!

And a corollary in my own mind, without any medical base beyond what seems
like logic: If a woman near the end of pregnancy is having breathing
problems, consider supplemental oxygen! A pituitary is too important to
lose.
