There is a theme that runs throughout Christianity that if you aren't
sacrificing and hurting then you aren't truly "saved."  Goes along with the
theme that you have to "work" for salvation, ie: "earn it.".  Gets into all
sorts of issues that aren't appropriate for Lactnet :-)  Whether the themes
are right or wrong isn't what we need to know.  We just need to know that
there are themes out there that can help parents justify "scheduling" or
"denial" or whatever and parents can feel very strongly about these beliefs
