I think it could take longer than 6 wks for baby to be able to tolerate the
breastmilk; probably due to the antibiotics and possibly the primary
infection (reason for antibiotics - was it gut infection?) damaging the
brush border of the intestines and making the baby unable to digest the
lactose. If baby can take soy (no lactose in it I think) then maybe it is a
lactose intolerance. Transient but not yet resolved. Could the baby be given
ebm treated with lactase enzyme. That has been discussed in the archives and
I think in Jack's book. Was the baby ok on the breast before the
antibiotics?
