Dear friends,

A mother phoned me last night to know why she experienced BF problems with
her first child (she is expecting her second one very soon and don't want
to have similar problems).
When her baby was 1 month old, she suddenly had deep pains, as if somebody
thrusted a sword in her back and breast(s?). The pain recurred every 10
minutes, during and between feeds. And also, the nipple turned white.
After a while she get her nipple(s?) cracked. She used a nipple shield, she
pumped her milk, and soon after the baby was weaned from the breast.
Of course it's difficult to make a diagnosis several years after (she don't
remember everything and has no answer to some of my questions).
I have some hypothesis : back pain ? thrush ? nipple vasospasm ?
She said that two weeks after the beginning of the problem, she (and the
baby) was diagnosed with hepatitis C. She said she had (and still has)
capillary troubles.
So my question is : do you know if hepatitis C could cause such problems in
a breastfeeding mother ? Do you know similar cases ?

Thankyou for your help.
