Barb,

Recently, Ralph Nader came out with a statement against the use of discharge bags. Did you hear about that? It is on the WEB. Even so, I don't know if that will help your cause.

I don't know if I have any other resources, but I can tell you that i think the administration simply wants the bags because they feel it is a good marketing tool for their hospital. Give away a nice cute bag to the new mom. AT our hospital we implemented a new thing several years ago - we got the hospital foundation to financially support a breastfeeding tote bag at discharge. It is a canvas bag with a nice logo which one of the nurses created. Inside the new mom finds samples of baby items from the Special Moments company, a breastfeeding resource list, a catalogue from Motherwear, and some new parent magazines from Lamaze. in the past, the WIC office here has even donated breast pads with the WIC phone number on it.

Maybe you can propose that as an alternative if they feel they must absolutely give something away. The only cost to the hospital is the bag itself. I wish you luck!
