It is fine for a mother of a healthy full-term infant to breastfeed her
infant if she has CMV - the baby has received antibodies in utero and
receives antibodies and the virus in the breastmilk. Having an unrelated
mother with CMV breastfeed even a healthy baby carries some increased risk.
The infant will be infected, and may be symptomatic or have long term
sequellae. The references in Dr. Lawrence refer only to a mother and her own
baby, not wet-nursing!
