I have a mother, G9P8 who has breastfed all 8 with great difficulty, due in
June. She has chronic low supply; good breast growth during pregnancy. Has
used an SNS with most of her previous breastfeeding experiences. Her thyroid
levels have always been on the very low side of normal, but no doctors have
treated her for thyroid problems. She has chronic anemia. She finally got in
to see a specialist at the Diabetic & Glandular Disease center, had a
prolactin level run by a doctor who claims he has never done a prolactin
level on a pregnant woman, can't find any normal limits (I faxed him a copy
of the chart in Lawrence's book), and did it "just to appease" the mother.
Results came back extremely low...a 27.

What can be done for this mother? The doctor refuses to test for pituitary
problems, blames everything from this condition to her poor circulation
(hands fall asleep regularly) on the "high number of pregnancies". We are
looking for anything that might be of help to her, as she really wants to
fully breastfeed this newest baby upon arrival.
