Rachael, I'd get her pumping with a good grade pump and using various herbs
that have been described on Lactnet.  Try SNS with tube under edge of
shield so supply is quick.  Use large tube 1st.  Gradually decrease tube
size as mom's supply comes up.  Use pumped milk in SNS so baby begins to
get one sort of taste most of the time.  Babies ID with the taste too, not
just the shield.  Between using decent pump and shield, nipples may begin
to come out.  This whole process is going to take a week or 2.  She'll need
lots of info on how-to and moral support.

I wouldn't hazard any guesses on why she got the "advice" that she did.  I
