beadie raises the same questions i keep raising with the utilization review
nurse and my mgr. however no one but me and one other coworker seems to want
to mess wtih the status quo and change things. i often ask, why can't the
mother and baby room in? our unit has peds pts so it makes perfect sense.
why can't the baby go home with home phototherapy? the baby was about 3 days
old becoz the mom was a c/s birth and so they were to leave on day 3. they
would not let the mother stay overnite. she was a medicaid pt. i don't know
how the ins. co. (medicaid) feels about this, i guess the m.d. is w/i his
right to treat the baby that way, even tho not aap guidelines, he is not
legally bound to practice by them. still so much that makes sense is
resisted. sad. as far as bringing anything to the peds section, i have to
say that if you asked me to recommend one of the many pediatricians on staff
i would have a very hard time recommending any of them. i don't think there
is one i would really recommend, however i could select two that were
'lesser of two evils' you might say. the neonatologists are great but they
are a separate entity. no flames please, this is not an indictment of
pediatricians in general. i have met many fine as well as lousy nurses,
neonatologists, surgeons over my 22 yrs. I am big on being kind to pts and
families and also being clinically astute. i expect same of everyone else.
