Dear Nicki,

Antibiotics do not kill antibodies, they kill bacteria. Antibodies are
special proteins produced by our immune systems which attack things like
bacteria which pose a threat to our bodies. The presence of maternal
antibodies in breastmilk is one of the things that make it so special,
and specialized. What is probably being referred to is the possibility
that the antibiotics that the mother is taking may get into the baby in
sufficient quantity to kill off some of the beneficial bacteria within
the baby. This may cause temporary diarrhea in the baby, but is
certainly not ordinarily anything to worry about.
