In regard to recent questions posted on sterilizing breast pump kit tubing:
As the former employee of a breast pump company, the tubing sterilization
question puzzles me. The tubing simply facilitates an exchange of air
(suction from the pump) and does not need to be sterilized or cleaned if no
milk has entered it. With the design of new kits from both companies, milk
overflow into tubing should be next to impossible.

Re: storage bag questions. Have you ever compared the thickness of the
plastic layers in bags designed specifically for milk storage? Even if they
are manufactured of polypropylene, the gauge of plastic is much heavier than
P-----x bags. One company claims to have a layer of nylon on the outside of
the bag which allows it to have some flexibility when milk expands during
freezing.

Suggest we check with Lois Arnold (Human Milk Banking Association of N.
America) for latest milk storage guidelines.
