Dear Lactnet,
Often times the "meaty" type labial frenulum extend band-like down to the
alveolar ridge and ends at the pre-maxilla (where you burn yourself with
pizza cheese!). This causes a diastema (space between upper incisors a la David
Letterman and Madonna) and is sometimes clipped anyway during orthodontics.
Because of its prominence, it is often torn during childhood with injury to the
mouth. It makes sense to have it evaluated in infancy esp. if it is effecting
th latch.
