Does anyone have more concrete info about whether these petitions are
taken seriously by the recipients?

i think slowly but surely it is becoming a legititmate way to effect change.
i have received the famous hoax ones (jamie bolger petition) and then the one
i'm still not sure of the status of (the woman who was going to be stoned to
death for infidelity and was supposedly granted a reprieve b/c of the online
petition - i did sign that one). more recently one was circulated here in MI
from the governor's office re: trash being shipped here from canada. i checked it
out and it was completely legitimate.i participated in that one and was
grateful for the convenience and informative nature of it! i think ppl are coming
to realize if they r/c one and are unsure, they can always just check it out at
an urban legends site...so if it's not legit, no harm, no foul. i hope email
petitions gain more legitimacy, i think they can be incredibly useful and
convenient!
~jacqui gruttadauria, who thinks we should put a big picture of pam anderson
on the top of ours to lure ppl in...it is about breasts, after all! (sort of).
