In Breastfeeding:A guide for the medical professional there is a re-lactation study in 1980 from Bose CL et al; Pediatrics , AAP
that shows a table based on time from last lactation, breast involution, and then the days or weeks in to complete relactation.
The first shows a term infant, 10 days from last lactation/ postpartum, with no breast involution being 1 day til first milk noticed, 4 days to reach a 1/2 supply and 8 days to complete relactation
Although the studay was on relactation, there was only 2 cases cited where the mother had not completely reached postpartum breast involution.
This is the only study I have seen recently ( was looking it up for a preemie mom with 6 weeks of separation and wish to relactate). Hope this helps.
