My goodness, Sam & Jennifer have certainly said it all! First Sam's
e-mail.....

"We have a similar argument about VBAC deliveries. "We induce VBACs because
if you were to deliver when the surgical/anesthesia staff is not at the
facility, if there were an emergency, you would not be covered."

Oh, and here's a local story... There is a new "hyperbilirubin visit" at one
of our local hospitals. The mother/parents are required to bring the newborn
back to the hospital for a mandatory bilirubin exam. However, it is ONLY the
BREASTFEEDING mothers who are required to make this extra visit. While I
understand the need to make sure a baby is breastfeeding well, why is this
check not done BEFORE the baby leaves the hospital, and why are we not
checking the formula-feeding parents for lack of parenting resources
(leaving the child in the car seat all day, not changing diapers, bottle
propping...)

Sam doak

I cannot believe they are doing that with BRF babies only re: bilirubin
tests. I have heard of some hospitals that want to ensure that they see
babies (all) on the 2nd or 3 day home; they decided to leave the cord clamp
on so they would have to bring it back or to some professional to have it
removed thereby allowing someone to see the babe. Of course, some of the
new monitoring clamps would make that difficult.

On VBACs our docs' insurance companies will NO longer ALLOW them to VBAC
patients; the only institution in OKC that does VBACs is the OU Health
Sciences Center. Period, end of story!!!!

I am sitting here looking at a card that states "There are more than 40
(forty) countries where it is safer to be born than in the USA.* The
websites shown are http://www.trustbirth.com http://takebirthback.org and
an address of [log in to unmask]

What an amazing thing to realize...........this country, the USA, is way
down on the scale when it comes to birth!

Blessings,

Royce
