Hi everyone,
I am so frustrated. I posted to the list last week sometime regarding breastmilk
storage for employee in the hiospital setting. Thank you for your replies. I am
now having trouble getting a new policy approved to allow employee to store
there EBM in the staff refrigerator inside a lunch/coolerbag to protect the milk.
This issue per infection control is that breastmilk is considered an OPIM (other
potentially infectious material). So. they are saying it cannot be stored with
staff food. I have references from HMBANA and CDC which say it is OK. But,
the OSHA statement is getting in the way. If anyone else knows of a strong
document to support my stance please let me know. I feel passionate about
making it is as easy as possible for our employees to continue to
pump/breastfeed after returning to work. This is just one small step. Please
help.
Thank You,
Brandi Thomas, RN, IBCLC (new)
