I have 2 questions. First can anyone recommend a website or blog that gives support and advice for mothers who need to do long term pumping?

Secondly, permission to post, a mother of an 11 month old nursling has a gaping wound at the base of her nipple areola from her sweet daughter's bite. She has been trying different positions for nursing, using APNO and saline washes (no signs of infection) and virgin coconut oil. There has been no relief of pain. Pumping hurts worse. It has been 10 days since the bite. Does anybody have any tips for her? She does not want to stop producing on that side, it is her most productive side.

And now for the "vent". I work in a hospital system that does about 10,000 births per year. There are 5 full time IBCLCs in the system. Like all hospitals in the U.S., our institution must cut costs. It has been suggested by one of the maternity directors that lactation services are extra. After all, this administrator claims, all nurses are trained to support breastfeeding (maternity nurses get 1-4 hours of breastfeeding instruction when hired). How are we going to save healthcare dollars if we do not provide lactation services? How are we going to get adequate breastfeeding rates if we do not support birth practices that promote breastfeeding? How do "lactavists" get any clout to begin to change the system? I have attended too many education sessions given for obstetricians, neonatologists and administrators about breastfeeding where less than a handful have shown up and, it appears, seem to think that it is not important. Well, maybe this should have been labeled a rant instead of a vent.
