I fully agree with her observation.  When we first had interpreters available in person for Spanish-speaking moms, I found ti quite awkward talking as if the interpreter wasn't there.  With practice it became quite easy and comfortable.  Then the only problem was stopping frequently enough for the interpreter to translate!  It was almost like I would forget she was there.  I also found that some could handle longer bits of information than others.  In time I absorbed enough Spanish that I could understand at least part of what the mom was saying.  One problem  had at the beginning was that the interpreter would often stop and say to me , "Really?  I wish I had known that when I had my babies!"
