It is situations exactly like this that make me get up on my soapbox a rave
about the importance of proper education and information on alternative
*natural* supplements. When one is unsure of what is causing a problem,
consulting a book is not always an answer in and of itself. The key is to
find someone that has an education in these areas and seek some advice.
First of all, yeast is not always the cause for fussiness. Sometimes its
just plain old stress induced intestinal cramping, or gas. There are
several perfectly viable options for this type of situation that can be
given directly to baby to alleviate their discomfort. A papaya *concoction*
should not have been taken as it causes clean out of the intestines and can
cause even worse pain in baby. If you have clients with questions on
alternative therapies, they are welcome to contact me at my 800# or by
e-mail and I'll be happy to answer any questions that I can BEFORE THEY TAKE
SOMETHING THAT MAY NOT AGREE WITH THEIR BREASTFEEDING INFANT. (Sorry for
shouting, I guess you can tell that this kind of situation really gets me
going).

Have had a frustrating time with a mom who has breastfed before but now has a
fussy baby. We had some difficulties with weight gain but things got much
better after the stresses of the difficult family (kept telling her to
supplement - lots of hot air) and hurricane, etc. blew away (just had to put
that one in!). He still is a fussy baby for about 3 hours once a day.
Otherwise nurses every 2 - 3 hours and sleeps at night, nurses more frequently
in the daytime and cries unless carried. He's 4 weeks old.

Mom read somewhere that this fussiness is due to yeast and took garlic pills (9,
I think), 3000 mg of Vit. C and some papaya concoction all the same day. Baby
now very fussy with mucousy stools with orange flecks (mom called 'cause she
feared this was blood). I don't know enough about the side effects of the
above-mentioned natural products - but I suggested to her that whenever she
introduces something new to her diet to add one at a time, small amounts, etc.

Why do people think that foods cause allergy - but highly concentrated "natural"
products do not???
Wishing you health and wellness!
