Has the nmother of the young baby with diarrhea checked the content of her
pre-natal vitamins? Many contain lact--- (whatever the offending allergen is)
as fillers/binders. I worked with a mom whose baby had blood in her stools.
The problem was a severe milk/milk product allergy. Symptoms would resolve and
then reappear -- related to the days the mother would remember or forget to
take her vitamin. She also finally figured out that she was, on occasion,
still using the frozen milk she had pumped before thay had figured out what the
problem was (working mother). When she'd use a batch
she had expressed before eliminating all milk, the bloody stools would return.
Also - check margarine use, as most margarines contain whey - a milk product.
