As I read the posts concerning family bed and the child's perceptions a
memory out of the past resurfaced- I became a foster parent before my
first child, now 17, was born. Many children have come and gone through
my home. It became my practice, whenever a new child entered our home,
to ask my son to "give the grand tour" of the house. One day, when Jeff
was probably 3 or 4 years old, I overheard him say to the newcomer "This
is my mom and dad's room. If you wake up in the night and are having a
bad dream, just come get into bed with Mom, she'll make it all better."
Not surprisingly, over 30 children later, I have yet to have one do
just that.
