Has anyone heard that the AAP Committee on Nutrition is considering changing
their recommendation that BF babies should be supplemented with iron since
15% of BF babies develop iron deficiency anemia? I have not seen any
studies that support the 15% figure, have any of you? I know the
recommendations of AAP 1997 statement on BF and the use of Human Milk, but a
very reliable source recently attended a conference on infant feeding where
she claims some members of the Committee on Nutrition dropped this "bomb". I
wonder if she misunderstood?
You can email me privately. Thanks, Mary Grace Lanese
