I was not aware that the ABA, ILCA, LLL and WABA had issued this statement.
It certainly is timely considering the discussions about articles bashing
breastfeeding promotion and support efforts. The statement is dated March
2009. Well worth checking out and adding to your resources!

Not sure if anyone else will say this so: there is a small group of LLLLs,
IBCLCs, and MDs who make up a "team" that attends United Nations functions to
raise the issue of breastfeeding and its critical nature and far-reaching
impact. Each year there is a long ( 2 weeks ish) meeting called the Commission
on the Status of Women, and each year there is a theme or two. This team works
hard to make sure that breastfeeding/ infant feeding'/mothering, etc is not
forgotten, and writes a statement how healthy feeding/relationships and the
theme might fit together. It is a task, to be sure. Chris Mulford started this
a while back and Susan Burger has come in and there are great statements
done like this every year. Kudos also to Kim Block and Kate Sharp and Margot
Mann, who often go, or have gone, to mingle with people from NonGovernmental
Organizations of all kinds and keep breastfeeding and children and mothers in
people's consciousness, no matter what their area of interest.
Peace,
Judy
