PTP
Baby is 6 days old.  Physiological birth (no meds).  Hospitalized last night for jaundice.  First baby, mom is 40.  Mom's milk production is low, and she's expressing (Ameda Purely Yours) 5X the amount of milk from one breast than the other.  (L>R)  Most she ever pumped between both breasts was 30cc.  (This was during the time baby was in the hospital.)  Baby now on pumped milk and formula and using bottles.  Mom's nipples are so sore she's taking a break from directly breastfeeding.  (We were working on getting a deeper latch, among other things.)  Mom reports she was diagnosed with "fibrous breasts" 20 years ago.  I was unable to find much of anything on "fibrous breasts," (in texts and journals) so not sure what this means.  Seeking what this is, how the condition might affect milk production, and what can Mom expect.  Is this even an actual diagnosis, or could the term be something else?  Could retained placenta be a factor here?
Also, I noted that the baby had a ridge down the middle of the roof of her mouth.  Could this be significant?
Thank you,
Julie Tardos
