Breastfeeding is the norm. Formula feeding is the intervention.
Breastfeeding advocates don't have to prove anything. If one claims formula
feeding is safe in some instances for normal healthy babies, and normal
healthly mothers, then one should have science based evidence to support this
claim.

Formula should rightly be a medical intervention only, (and admitedly,
sometimes the benefits of using the formula outweigh the risks). But for
normal situations, I have seen no evidence that the benefits of formula
outweigh the risks.

I think most of us are not staying that EVERY formula feed baby is damaged...

However, I am saying that.......we CANNOT say that every formula fed baby
ISN'T damaged, because there is no science based evidence that will support
that.

Formula feeding has not been proven to be safe. In some countries, there is
a mortality rate of 50% (mortality, not morbidity) of formula fed babies.
(This comes from Ruth Lawrence)

The burden of proof should be on those that use the intervention. (and sadly,
when it comes to breastfeeding, many think that we should have to be the ones
to prove the intervention isn't safe).

June Rychlik, who SHOULD be studying for the IBCLC exam, instead of writing
email...and
WIC Nutritionist for 14 years..who has seen PLENTY of problems directly
caused by formula use.
