I remember very well the first breastfeeding class I ever taught when I
explained how often the baby would be fed and was then asked ,"even at
night?". When I replied yes, there was actual mutuny in the room. Later on
when the baby was birthed, the very same couple turned to one of nurses and
said " That other nurse said my baby would be up at night....that's not for
real is it!" I can't tell you how many mothers return their babies on the
first day after the evening feed and say "see you in the morning!"......uh,
no. Now in class I take a survey of who has breastfed before and who is having
their first baby. If the experienced couple seems receptive when I get to
night feedings I say you know what I mean about how the baby will be up at
night right? This usually leads to a lively discussion between class mates.
