I've just been at a training day for potential Baby Friendly
Assessors, and thought some of you would be interested. The training
was interesting - the Director of Baby Friendly UK Andrew Radford
was there, also Mike Woolridge and Sandra Lang, and Scotland's
National Breastfeeding Advisor, Jenny Warren. I didn't realise quite
what I was letting myself in for. the training was really looking at the
assessment process, the pitfalls, (eg finding out when you're almost
finished on a Friday that you need to interview antenatal mothers and
there are no more antenatal clinics till Monday), and the rationale
behind the process. I am impressed - I think it really is a fair system,
and will get honest results. They are training up a lot of potential
assessors in the UK because demand is so high to set the wheels in
motion, though probably very few are anywhere near Uk or Global
award yet. So now I wait to get a chance to act as second assessor,
somewhere not too near home - and not too far either I hope! I am
very enthusiastic about the whole thing, I think it's a great opportunity
to really make a difference to mothers and babies...

So next what about a Baby Friendly Community Initiative?

What other countries have really taken Baby Friendly on board?
