Clipping the lingual frenulum is known as frenotomy: otomony meaning incision.
Frenectomy is excision of a frenum and is a far more extensive procedure, and
probably rarely needed for the treatment of tongue-tie. I beliee we must be
very careful in our use of terminology. In my research I found that many
physicians were confused about this very thing and that's why they were
reluctant to recommend treatment. They erroneously thought the tongue-tied baby
needed a frenectomy rather than a frenotomy.

To the lady in Boston, sorry, I don't know any HEENT people but yoiu can use a
dentist.
