Today, this from the Thyroid Society, online....

Dear Kathleen,

I apologize if there was a misunderstanding.

Pregnant women and mothers breastfeeding should not take radioactive iodine!
With regard to Antithyroid drugs...

"Antithyroid drugs get into breast milk and can affect a baby's thyroid
function.
If it is necessary to treat a nursing mother with antithyroid drugs, PTU is
preferred
since it does not appear in breast milk in as high concentrations as
Tapazole. A PTU
dosage of less than 200 mg per day in a nursing mother does not usually
affect a baby's
thyroid function. However, the nursing baby should have thyroid function
tests every
three to four weeks for as long as its mother is taking PTU."
