I hope someone has some experience or information on the effects of
sulfasalozine(500mg/6Xd) and she has been on it 6 wk. Baby was a preemie
(33wk) exclusively bf, and is now 6 months. Baby gained no wt for past
month, and mom has lost 25# in past 2 months. No longer losing, and eating
adequate diet. Baby nurses 7+ times/d, sleeps from 11pm til 6-7am, no
solids.
My suggestions are feedings should include breast compression when
suck/swallow rate begins to taper off, use switch nursing to keep baby from
dozing off to ineffective suck and to increase supply. Feels she has no
time for pumping.I suggested following MD rec. to start solids, but feed
only 1X/d for next week while offering breast more. I will be doing a diet
analysis on mom's diet in light of the recent dx of Crohn's Ds. Wt check
in 10d-2wk, and evaluate course of action based on infant wt.
