For the 6 week old that won't latch, or latches but doesn't transfer milk, you said you've tried several things already. Here are some things I might try, and not necessarily in this order:
nipple shield, co-bathing, babymoon, baby wearing, dripping ebm onto nipple area with baby in the vicinity. I think, if the baby was early, that he did not really learn how to breastfeed. He doesn't have a wide gape, is mother eliciting a gape before bottle feeds.? I think mother has a good chance of achieving direct breastfeeding. Bottom line is, I would sort of let the baby figure it out, ala self attachment, and not "force" the issue, as tempting as that is sometimes.Laurie Wheeler, IBCLC, MN, RN Mississippi, s.e. USA
