Attie,
Of course we can (and do) have regrets. That's why I need to write
myself (and Lactnet) these little messages about another way to look at
those painful things in our past. I won't list all the things in my
life... Anyway, we're human!
BTW, I was reading a book that talked about guilt -- a word that makes
all Lactnetters cringe, I bet -- that suggested that, while we don't
want our kids to be consumed in guilt, to lack self-esteem, etc. we *do*
want them to have a healthy conscience. I wouldn't really want mothers
who decide to artificially feed their babies not to feel any pangs. It
isn't much different from mothers feeling distressed when they go along
with advice to let their babies cry. I prefer to tell them that's how
they are supposed to feel, and that they're designed (as are their
babies) to feel that way and find a way to avoid feeling that way again.

Jo-Anne
